Yes, this is the underlying issue.

Parents of tween/teenagers are from the social media 1.0 generation and see it all through a prism of their own experiences. They see their children as their own 'experience' and often don't consider the implications of posting stuff about their children's lives. Almost because they think it is 'their' news alone.

I've seen no end of "WTF MUM" type posts from children of social media 'friends' and you would imagine that a new generation of parents will not compromise their children so much simply because they remember how it feels.

The internet is still a toddler though - and online behaviours reflect that.
