Kane could very easily have sneaked the ball in at the near post last night, rather than hitting it. Or it could have bounced back in off the defender after hitting the post.

Would we have held on to 2-0? Very possibly, I think. Not least 'cos Croatia's heads might well have dropped a bit at that point, and they might have started to feel all those long games.

In which case the entire narrative would feel very different today. It's all very fine margins.
