second half of the summer term in old money.
I'm the son of two teachers. They would split their year's work for non-public-exam school years into five parts. One per half term.
No-one learns anything in Term Six. They're knackered, obstreperous, disinterested, knackered. The kids aren't fully focused on learning either.
Mum and Dad would admit this quite cheerfully and spend this half-term going back over stuff, trying to make it amusing/interesting; or teaching stuff they didn't actually need to know but might want to. This apparently worked better with top sets than bottom sets; I can't imagine why that might be.
Disclaimer: as a non-teacher I clearly have no clue about any of this, but I'm still quite happy to hold forth on it. I guess you teachers are used to that.
