You don;t think that having to beat

Japan and then Sweden or Switzerland to get to a World Cup semi final is preferable to or gives you a better chance than playing Columbia and then Brazil?

I agree there are no gimmes (Switzerland in particular are very solid) and ultimately to win the World Cup you have to beat good teams but there is also such a thing as a favourable draw in a competition and I think its hard to argue that the draw for the team that comes second is not more favourable.
