That World Cup was hilarious

24 teams, so top two in six groups went in to four pools of three.

We went in to a pool with two runners-up... err West Germany and (hosts) Spain.

France as runners up went in with two pool winners... Austria and Northern Ireland!

Italy, Brazil and Argentina were all in one pool... so were Belgium USSR and Poland (the latter got to the semis).

The history of successful teams somehow seems set in advance - but as with 2002, England were a good side in 82, probably one of the best four sides there and we were banjaxed by the draw.
