I have no ill-feeling towards Hughton in the slightest. His time here was well and truly up however. I won't re-iterate all the points others have made, but will say I remember the home game against West Brom (clappergate). 1-0 down and Hughton brought on Becchio (a player he had barely used) and midfield plodder Jonas Gutierrez for Olsson. Seemed like he had run out of ideas. The team looked so unbelievably disorganised and Gutierrez kept looking at the bench, shrugging his shoulders and asking where he was meant to play. The plot had been well and truly lost.
Hughton also signed RvW. In an interview RvW was told by Hughton that the team was going to go 'more direct' and as that didn't suit him, he wouldn't be playing. You sign a player for a club record fee and then 4 months later decide to change to a system that doesn't suit him. Brilliant. I remember going to those complete no show away performances. 10 men behind the ball and hoping for a fluky goal from a free kick. It was torturous. I also remember attending the embarrassing home defeat to non-league Luton. He should have gone then. So good luck to Hughton. Maybe he learnt from his mistakes here. But please don't tell me fans were arrogant for wanting him gone.
