Agreed on the first point.

Particularly as those opposing Brexit put zero effort in to campaigning, thinking (foolishly) it would be kicked in to the long grass. Agree partially with your second point. It does seem daft though to pursue a course of action which appears flawed, just because the decision has already been made.
