especially with athletes who spend more of their time doing repetitive actions in the same repetitive situation than actually doing so in non-repetitive situations. For example, only doing repetitions of a drill or exercise on your own rather than the same thing but in a game or simulated game situation where the action is the same but the situation is different every time you execute it.
Those scenarios occur most often these days when an athlete (especially young) is pushed into specialising in a single sport too seriously too young, but also can happen in examples like long term rehabbing from injuries.
