Both ways

I’d go Dartford heading south, because the new toll system has eliminated queues on the bridge, but would check Apple or Google maps before setting off to go north because they put in some traffic lights before the tunnels (which take you north) and they can create HORRENDOUS tailbacks. So definitely consider going north on the way back.
