During a second half toilet visit in the lower Barclay, I’m standing at the stinking metal trough making room for some post-game beer, when I hear the two blokes next to me having a relatively loud and assertive conversation. I don’t recognise either of them, and there’s no reason why I would.
“They don’t like it, they can get out of my f**king way.”
“Yeah, f**k ‘em.”
“They say I can’t be racist, I f**king can.”
Those are the exact words. Now, as I was midstream, I couldn’t follow them out to either say anything to them (probably unwise, judging by mood) or see where they were sat. I had a good look around when I got back to my seat but couldn’t see them. Obviously someone had said something to them or had a go or something. Equally obviously, to me anyway, they were pretty unapologetic about their stance.
Should I tell the club? Is it ok to be racist these days? What kind of world are we living in nowadays FFS?
