The company that on Friday secured a surprise ?351m deal for overseas TV rights to test cricket in India has reached agreement with a UK broadcaster over the forthcoming England series, but will not announce the identity until next week.
Nimbus Communications has agreed terms with a UK broadcaster but is still finalising the contract and will not be making a formal announcement until Monday at the earliest, according to Indian media reports today.
Cable and satellite broadcaster Zee TV is being tipped as the winner of the UK rights auction, according to Indian financial paper Business Standard.
But Sky, which has broadcast live coverage of England's overseas cricket tours for over a decade, and Sony Entertainment Television, are also thought to be in the running. The loss of the series would be a major blow for Sky, which recently concluded a deal to show all of England's home games exclusively.
The first Test in the three match series between England and India begins in Nagpur on Wednesday March 1.
In a statement issued to the Indian media today, Nimbus said it had reached agreement - but not signed off deals - with broadcasters in the UK, US, Canada, Caribbean and Middle East for the TV rights to Test matches in India.
