Isn’t the issue more this?

We have some excellent players (including two, maybe theee, of the very best players in the division) yet we have had an AWFUL season

Since we look certain to lose Madders and Wes, and may well also lose Gunn and Jamal and Tettey, then unless we get very lucky in the transfer market or find someone down the back of the Academy sofa, we could well be even worse next season
