Maddison is clearly wasted on the right, compared to where he usually plays. But for the situation it worked until Norwich opened up to chase a goal, when Sessegnon came on and exploited the gaps.
If Murphy had the cognitive ability to make a simple pass to Maddison on a couple of occasions, then we would have had a lead to defend and not needed to push higher up the pitch. That's the difference in player quality for you. Maybe you could argue we should have done a Hughton and settled for a draw, but I think fans would have moaned about negativity if that happened.
