The team has clearly been built around him, largely with the intent to build up play so we can get the ball to him in the hole, so he can cause havoc and either drive through the middle of opposition teams with the ball or win a free kick in a dangerous position. That's playing to your strengths. Take him out of the equation and there's very little to work with. Even a workmanlike squad such as Millwall's has more physicality and pace than ours, which makes a huge difference at any level.
Quite a few on here have wanted us to play four at the back and change to a counter attacking style. Farke has done that recently, but the squad lacks pace on the break and at the back to deal with counters. Yesterday we were totally reliant on Murphy during transitions, but that's a huge problem when he makes the wrong decision more often than not. Hernandez was a big loss. Obviously as Norwich pushed on to chase a goal, gaps were left due to the four at the back and Fulham exploited them. I don't see this as playing to our strengths, but at the same time this is the style that many on here were moaning on about that Farke should use. So if Farke goes back to the controlled possession 3 at the back system, which was earning the team around 2 points per game on average, will fans accept it, or will they start moaning on again about it being "boring"?
How would you set up Walker? How would you set up? I'm ready here with my virtual critiquing pen, a curious eyebrow and a cynical side eye. You've got credit in the bank for your Lambert advent calendar venture, but now it's time to step up. Fire away...
