I hope I'm wrong... but sitting on bank card which "snapped" - does that even happen?

A thief electing to dump a stolen car into a river, even though there's a child in the back (or was the car not actually stolen and it just rolled into the river near it was parked - not clear from the article).

Either the article hasn't been very carefully written, or it looks a bit dodgy...
