although it would have been gutting to lose to that Reading side after Norwich wasted some great chances. Reading were awful.
The problems with this squad should be blatant to everyone who watches Norwich regularly at this point. Again the defence looked far from convincing with a back four, even against a poor side. Having stated that, the set up was the right one today, because Norwich had to go for it with as much attacking pace as possible on the pitch, against a poor side playing a high defensive line. Against most other teams we will need Hanley, Zimmermann, Klose, Tettey and Trybull all on the pitch if possible.
The finishing from the forwards is so poor at times that it defies belief. I'm not sure how Srbeny failed to hit the target when through on goal, let alone fail to score. He also failed to make the correct far post run and get on the end of a good driven Murphy cross (credit where it's due) in that second half. But... if there is a time to play Srbeny through a difficult adjustment, then it's now where Norwich have little to play for other than pride. He displayed some good touches and lay offs today, so there's something to build on once he gets up to the pace of the championship. It's a big jump for him, so while it's fair to point out where he needs to improve, some patience is also needed.
Ending on some very positive notes. Hernandez was impressive today and his recent performances should give us Norwich fans some hope for next season.
The counter attacking with two pacey wide forwards was exciting today and will be a great tactic to use against most teams that decide to play a high line against Norwich, regardless of finishing. Despite that, it probably won't be the go to tactic most weeks, because most teams will defend much deeper (and with far superior organisation) than Reading did today, denying Norwich space to exploit in behind, which is why Farke generally goes for a possession game to draw out opposition teams in order to create space behind. Regardless, it's pleading to see some sensible tactical flexibility from the manager.
