Think about your strikers and work back

If you have a target man type who is very good at your level then you want to design service to him, ie width and crosses and runners from midfield. If you don't have acceptable wingers maybe use wingbacks. If you have loads of nimble playmaker types maybe selling your target man and getting a strong mobile forward to feed off their deliveries is a better option.

Don't be afraid to experiment, but keep it simple to begin with. You don't need raumdeuter, trequaristas, deep lying or roaming playmakers all over your midfield.

Analyse your squad against the league averages, it's a numbers game and if the numbers say your squad is a below average pace, skill, passing etc then a possession control style will kill you.
