Well if we are still not happy enough with him to play him after all this time then

I am not sure Farke would be chomping at the bit to have him back. Thing with players like that is that they are young so you do invest some time and energy in trying to get them in the right work ethic. However, at some point your returns start being far lower than the energy you put into it and that really annoys a coach. It becomes a distraction from the things in the team which are actually helping it. That's the time to just give up on them and it has happened to many hugely talented footballers and will again. Young players need to understand that. It's a business, there's a whole squad of players who need to be managed and if you are taking up far more of the staff's time and energy than is worth what you are giving back then it doesn't matter how good you think you are, you will be cut loose.

On the other hand if he were to go back with an improved attitude I am sure that, Madders deal or not, Spurs would be more than happy to send him back for another year if they thought it might help to sort him out for good.
