Because we could still have made signings reducing the wage budget that could have made an immediate impact. For example, we could have signed another striker and some wingers - even a one season loan - rather than not making that a priority because it didn't fit in with the long term plan. That's not gambling all the money on promotion, it's giving yourself the best shot at going up this season, within the budget.

Stop speaking in hyperbole all the time and creating straw men. No-one is advocating an all or nothing approach; of course we need to balance the financial realities - short and long term - with the composition of the playing squad. But there are various ways in which we can do that. We have chosen one of the most extreme ways - giving 100% support to an unproven CEO and manager and basically writing off a season when we still have some very good players - which is naturally going to be a gamble.
