Again Farke set up with an attacking line up vs a mediocre side at home and ended the game with a gung ho approach. Norwich had the run of the game and our forwards were either put into or found themselves in promising positions, but there was a total lack of even a half decent end product. This team badly needs some quality forwards and a natural goalscoring number 9 for this level. It has been obvious for months to many on here, but now there can be no debate.
As for four at the back, tonight showed that this Norwich side are vulnerable against teams that sit back, soak up the pressure and look to hit them on the break. A team with better quality than Forest would have scored a couple of goals today. Games like this show why Farke stuck with the 3 cb's + 2 wing backs + double pivot cm system, because Norwich can actually cope with counters that way. Now that we know for certain that the goalscoring issue is down to personnel rather than tactics, 3 cb's should be the way forward.
For those moaning at Farke, let's have a reality check and look at some of the more reliable first team players he has used this season:
Rookie goalkeeper playing his first pro senior first team season.
Rookie left back with under 20 senior games.
Rookie cm playing his first full season, currently having to do a job at rb.
CB from the German 4th division.
CAM who was previously farmed out to league one and the spl, who Farke has improved immensely.
Winger/forward with very little end product, who has only played one full season at this level.
This is a really inexperienced side at this level, one that badly lacks goal threats. It's also a side that has been coached to play some excellent passing football. A side that has only lost one league game since Christmas. Farke is doing a good job with what he has to work with, let's give him some credit and try to be realistic. The real criticism should go to those in charge of the club who have left the dof and manager in a situation where they can't afford to bring in any real quality goalscorers, despite losing several.
