it's defensive possession, always playing the safe ball. Until it gets to Maddison, then hope he can create something out of nothing.
Teams who play this 'philosophy' well combine it with intense pressing and great movement off the ball. They play slowly then move up two or three gears in the final third, opening up the opposition with one touch pass and move. We do none of that, because most of the players aren't good enough to play in that way. This philosophy simply doesn't work at this level.
