take a bottle of water (if little else, your bike should really have a bottle cage).

And cycling is an excuse to eat. You don't need a 'plan'. But take a cereal bar or two in a pocket. Or if you're feeling old school, some fig rolls (traditional British cyclist nutrition).

Oh, and as I said, every cycle ride is an excuse to stop for tea/coffee (on which there are strong views...) and cake, if you see or know of a nice cafe en route...
