Question for the cunning linguists on here, since I am an ignorant English oaf
what barely speaks my own language, never mind any of that forrin muck.
My Italian colleague asks: why is it when English borrows or uses an Italian word for food, it's always the Italian plural, even when used in the singular in English? Panini, calamari, for e.g.
