Certainly prefer our situation to theirs. Relying on the older ‘experienced but high wage premier squad’ was, by last season, a one year not unreasonable gamble, afte it had succeeded in bouncing back after the last relegation.
Once that failed I believe we had to use this last year of parachute payments for a more radical restructuring rather than gambling that what didn’t work last year would, with just a bit of tinkering, work this year.
It’s a lot more challenging to remould a squad so radically, definitely unrealistic to expect it in just one or two windows, and there are bound to be mistakes along the way. Overall feeling optimistic that the plan is bearing fruit & coming together. I reckon we’ll be a lot stronger next season, with a squad that is still capable of developing further with a good core capable of the step up.
