Whilst overall the TWaTD posters are making reasonable points, there is a large element of whistling to keep their spirits up and I reckon they are wrong to extrapolate Sunday’s (first half) display as a sign of what’s to come for us. Their dwindling attendances and alienation from the manager are not the most attractive incentive for player recruitment, and I wonder how likely it is that big micks replacement will have a large wedge of Evans cash to invest. I’d sooner be in our shoes next season than theirs.
Yes, we do have big financial challenges & the club seems refreshingly honest & open about this. The restructuring & the work of the last windows is changing our playing profile with a younger, hungrier & less expensive squad. The nature of this work means it will take time to gel, and not all the transplants from other leagues will work but arguably the success rate is not bad. Unfortunate we’ve lost Trybull for the rest of the season but I’ll expect more performances similar to a Derby second half rather than Ipswich first half during the rest of this season. Still needs another window, but this is being carefully planned in respect of both incoming & outgoing. I have the sense of a plan coming together, rather than a meltdown.... the only dent to my sense of optimism is the worrying hints of nepotism at the top.
