Travel advice

Have to travel cross country to Liverpool with car/kids on the Friday evening heading into half term. Am prepared for it to be a nightmare but is it better to go K.Lynn then North West up to the M62 and over, or Cambridge then NW via M1?

Am tempted to take the Northern route but worried about sitting on the A47 at that time of the afternoon.

Need to think about somewhere to stop and break up the journey too, either just for dinner or dinner and stay and finish the journey off in the morning.

Google maps suggests there is v little between the two routes in best conditions but obviously I don't expect best conditions on a Friday evening.
