From what I've heard, not first-hand, it's not the clubs or other players that's the issue

It's the fans.

In terms of a way forward I would be looking to the FA to coordinate something like a mass "coming out" when plenty of players at all levels of the game do it - there's an annual Coming Out Day which might fit the bill (for example).

Then be utterly ruthless using video evidence and whatever else is necessary to get rid of those "fans" - I recall an estimate that roughly 7% "would have a problem with it" - so get those 7% out of our grounds.

I for one wouldn't hesitate to grass a fellow Canary up if I heard her/him shout or chant something racist these days and the same goes for homophobic abuse.

I do think it's possible to move forward on this if the FA shows some kind of leadership. Sadly they're not exactly renowned for showing leadership, but still.
