but in recent years achieving this has been somewhat spoilt by the fact that if you aren't one of the top clubs, then you are going to adjust to a 'stay up at all costs' style of football. No matter how much you love your club, there comes a time when it's just painful to watch.
The novelty for fans of going to the 'big clubs' wears off quickly, and even more so when it just isn't competitive. The great games in the prem are rarely bottom half v bottom half because they are even more the 'must not lose' set.
Now I think wanting promotion is more about players having the chance to play against the best - those few moments of 'scoring at Old Trafford' fame. So no one can begrudge that happening but it's not much of an overall offer.
However it's marginally better than mid-table mediocrity a level down...
