as a Dons and Norwich fan think I'm pretty well based to cover this.

McLean is a good player, who drifts in and out of games.

The majority of Aberdeen fans recognise that when he is on form there aren't many players in Scotland who are as good, but when he is not playing well it is like playing with 10 men.

Most fans thought he was off to Rangers* so they recognise the benefit of selling now and getting him back on loan for the rest of the season, as the money covers wages and also allows us to plan ahead for his replacement instead of scratching around for someone now.

I suspect there may also be a Norwich player sent to Aberdeen on loan next season as well.

McLean is the sort of player who can pick a pass from nothing, so maybe he is 'too technical' for the Scottish leagues - he was keeping Maddison out of the team, and look where he is now!
