I think the McClean deal is good business

It’s obvious he’s a player we really wanted, so doing it this way means he’s definitely ours come the summer.

Reports are that a lot of clubs were interested so no guarantee we would have got him for free in the summer.

Also, I’m sure that a decent chunk of the transfer fee will be used for Aberdeen to pay his extra wages for the rest of the season. We may not be paying any of the reported £12k.

I.e. we pay £200k and Aberdeen pay all his wages, or we pay £100k and we pay £5k of his wages, is pretty much the same economics.

Anyway, I just like that we’re proactively getting things done rather than hoping to get him in the summer.

Whether he’ll be good or not, who knows? Was highly rated as a youth and the description of him sounds like he fits well with what we want from a player, “could open a tin of beans with his left foot”, was one quote. But there are others about him being a rare type of Scottish footballer that looks to play slide rule passes and can actually do it too.
