I wouldn't want us to go all-in financially either and put the club at risk.

But the point is, why is this a transition season? We have players like Maddison, Hoolahan, Tettey, Oliveira etc... and we have had Jerome, Pritchard and would most probably still have them if we were in the promotion picture.

So we are paying these players anyway, without going all-in financially. The bulk of this set of players (with improvements like Maddison and Gunn) was deemed to be good enough for promotion last season - the reason why the board got rid of Neil and Irvine. So why aren't they deemed good enough to have a real tilt at promotion this season; why is it being written off as a transition?

The financial argument is irrelevant in this respect, because we are paying these players anyway for this season. We might as well try to get the most out of them before transitioning to a more frugal existence.
