Regarding your aside, more of a general problem in Europe.
If/when Man City win the Prem it will be the 9th straight season that the previous year's champions didn't successfully defend their title.
Italy: 6 straight for Juve
Germany: 6 straight for Bayern
France: 4 straight for PSG (until last season)
Spain: 28 of last 33 won by two teams.
Title race is over in England... but in many countries it's over before it starts.
