The mine splits through the farmers property and a compulsory purchase order was made for part of the land to enable the mine to continue north. As part of the order and the negotiations, the farmer is allowed access across the mine so long as he is escorted at all times. The funny bit is that when the contracts were created, the landholder liaison team screwed up and didn’t specify that the farmer had to give reasonable notice to allow for an escort. So he can just rock up anytime at the gate and expect to be escorted. So the mine employed a guy to sit in a ute, at the gate and wait all day doing nothing, just in case the farmer needs access that day.
Pretty funny.
