Yes, big Slack users here. We love it. Small team, eleven or so users across the UK, and one is Oz. Free account, so we only get 10k messages or something before old ones get silently forgotten, but that's OK, we use Email for anything that requires a permanent timestamped record (arse covering purposes).
I've written Slack hooks into:
* our continuous integration system, so if one of my fools breaks the build, everyone knows about it immediately
* out release system, so that when a new release is built, everyone on the #builds channel gets a notification.
* the error handling processes in our Production systems, so that certain categories of serious errors start to set of alarm bells in the #prod-errors channel well before any support call makes its way to my team
There are various others that a too boring to document.
Additionally we have a channel for chatting s**t about Star Trek DEAL WITH IT SHITBREATH. And then there are various other channels for different things: the Devs have channel for chatting about Dev stuff, the professional services bods have one for chatting client stuff.
It's a much better IM platform that Skype IMO (we have Head Office mandated Skype For Business, which we don't use within the team, favouring Slack instead).
