Unfortunately the UK media (mostly right-wing) allows urban myths to develop by failing to challenge the claims of politicians (mostly right-wing) who repeatedly distort these NHS issues to fit their anti-NHS agenda.
FUNDING:
You will hear people say the "NHS is unaffordable" etc. but the truth is that the UK gov chooses to spend less money per person than many other countries do. The German gov spends about 30 percent more per person on health care than we do.
2016 Gov spending per capita (per person) on healthcare examples:
Luxenbourg: 6,194
Norway: 5,664
Switzerland: 5,038
USA: 4,860
Germany: 4,695
Sweden: 4,603
Denmark: 4,374
NL: 4,354
Austria: 3,957
Japan: 3,801
Ireland: 3,879
Belgium: 3,740
France: 3,626
Iceland: 3,593
Canada: 3,341
UK: 3,320
ADMIN COSTS:
Some people claim that too much NHS money goes on admin. However, the latest OECD data show that on a like for like basis the NHS spends only 2p in the pound on administration, compared to 5p in Germany and 6p in France.
EFFICIENCY:
Some people claim the NHS is very inefficient. However, the NHS is one of the world's most efficient health care systems.
