I wouldn't commute Nodge to London but for quite some years ...

...I paid £3k+ a year for the "privilege" of standing on an overcrowded, late train every morning (rule of thumb: aim for the trains two trains before your train and you've a chance of getting to work on time...of course when you do all the trains run and you waste half an hour but what can you do). At least I'm reasonably tall so on hot days it was their faces in my armpits not the other way around; and on the way home I usually got a seat (not always, mind).

Some public services quite arguably should have been privatised. Rail is simply not one of them, and even if you're going to privatise it, to separate track from operations was just incredibly dumb.
