and probably just as quick to go from Norwich to London and then london to Manchester

that cross country train from Norwich is very slow and rarely have ticket offers , if you book early enough you can usually get to London for £10 and i would imagine very similar offers exists London to Manchester , assuming what time you travel is flexible
