but there should be some oversight by the board - the non-executive directors. There was no-one on the board with any sort of football expertise to question the signings made under Lambert, Houghton or Neil. There isn't now.
The signing of Van Wolfswinkel, for example could not be justified, and if anyone on the board had asked the basis for it - well there was none. The style of football we were intent on playing, and the type of player he is, simply do not marry up - before his ability, or lack of, are considered.
