Isn't it a pound for pound question

we couldn't afford a lot of the squad, so we're not likely to get stronger players. If Zimmerman costs half as much as Ryben but is slightly better than half as good then I presume that puts us in a net improvement pound for pound, but doesn't make us a better team.
