I never said whether the majority were right or not

but the government were acting in the interests of the majority, which is there role; albeit one that they do not always fill. In addition, the majority of people do care about the environment to varying degrees - it is untrue to say otherwise. The fact is that nearly all non-smokers will be happy with the new legislation and most smokers will be unhappy - as more people are non smokers, it makes sense to go with the majority. It is not personal choice for the bar staff who work in smoky pubs. Banning smoking in pubs is a preventative healthcare measure supported by the majority.
