Vinyl, if looked after properly, lasts a long time...for example I've just bought a 7" of the Kingsmen's finest Louis Louis from ebay and it's in wonderful condition...as I'm sure you're aware, CD's rot, skip and so on so they're no more efficient than vinyl in that respect...
