Worthy is just a passenger who was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time (when the board were in a position to give him loads of dosh to spend where his predecessors - no worse managers than him - got none). He then get to spend loads of money on Hucks, again rather luckily because we only had money left because we were outbid on the donkeys he wanted to buy that summer. And he got fantastically lucky with a) an almost total absence of injuries, b) winning loads of games (comfortably into double figures) when we weren't actually the better team on the pitch, and c) it was a really crap division that year
He then cocked up the Prem season (Fleming?? Holt??)when there were actually 3 other really crap teams so we didn't even need to get the fabled 40 points to stay up, and his management this season has been farcical.
Two main things stand out:
1) Worthy teams can't play proper passing football. That's why we can't kill games, even at home against 10 men. because we can't keep the ball. Because we have players on the pitch who are there because they run around/shout a lot, not because they can actually play.
2) Worthy hates young players, and fills the squad with journeymen whose value is never going to appreciate. This club has traditionally always done best picking up future stars from lower leagues/its own youth programme (our only way of acquiring players who might prove top level calibre given the modern game's financial constraints). That won't happen under Worthy, which means even if we somehow get promoted agsin we will have a squad full of players without the ability or even potential to play at the top level (Sunderland rejects anyone?).
