It's nastier, yeah, and really bitingly funny at times ...

... but I reckon the characterisation is much better in The Simpsons, as is the plotting. I find the styles of humour are more varied in The Simpsons too - they're amazing at doing irony, slapstick, satire, sarcasm and silliness alike. But like you say, they're both fantastic.
