at the time, I think the amusement on here about that was that

he was comparing Safri to Makelele, and then suggesting that therefore Charlton was the appropriate cover for him.

To which I think the obvious response was - if Safri's so fecking important to the team, why is 'Charlie' the only cover we have for him?

to which the answer is plainly in the very next sentence: "it's only when people aren't there that you realise just how much they actually bring to the team."

hmmm. guess we thought that realising that sort of thing was kind of your *job*, Nigel.....
