thick-skinned footballers

So, the general opinion appears to be that footy players should be used to industrial language and not mind having their sexuality called into question.

Two points -
Dean Ashton lived with his parents up until he left Crewe. That hints he was not overly street-wise and may have been sensitive to criticism/teasing.
Justin Fashanu, a young black man brought up in Norfolk. Presumably endured more racist stuff than you or I could handle yet was still very cagey about his sexuality.
