i see a doco about them a while ago

they have to pay for their own fuel (maybe not yodel but some of them) so if they miss a customer they either have to leave the package with a neighbour or re-deliver it the next day. the re-delivery obv uses more fuel, the finding a neighbour willing to take the parcel in takes time hence they shove them in trees etc and get on and try and meet their targets.
