I think that as has been commented elsewhere

We have good players in almost all positions, players that possibly should have stayed in the premier league last season had we had a more experienced manager and perhaps a more clinical finisher. As such, it is hard as a championship side to sign players who are better than those we already have because if we were trying to buy our existing players now we would not be able to afford/get most of them.

Perhaps the one area where this is not the case is strikers where we only really had Jerome and it should have been possible to find someone with a better goal scoring record but then the flipside with Jerome is that his all round game suits our style of play so well.

For me, therefore, other than finding that clinical finisher and possibly a pacey replacement for Redmond I was not really expecting us to sign many first choice players this summer, just bulk out the squad for what will be an attritional season. We will have to wait and see with Canos (who I think has been treated harshly thus far) but obviously Murphy coming through has been a bonus. Pritchard I think is a good signing in that he's not far short of Wes anyway but has potential to ease his workload over the coming years and eventually be his replacement. I do feel though that perhaps he was a bit of a kneejerk signing having missed out on McCormack.
