Same in any mass road race

There's a park just after the start of the London mara where men and women are all having a slash, before even the first mile is up, every single year I've done it. It's never a pretty sight. Experienced runners know to have a slash as close as possible to, but before, the off; in Reading there's an office car park which I'm afraid always gets used for this purpose by quite a lot of us who run that half each year...
