I can remember when old blokes used to say to me that football had become rubbish.
For them the game had been all about skill and entertainment involving the likes of Stanley Mathews.
They had also lost all interest in the game due to the emergence of football hooliganism.
Financially, footballers used to aspire to make enough money to run a pub or a sports shop.
... and now I watch footballers and think... a lot of them are a bit crap really... and you could probably take any person and make them into a footballer if given enough coaching. It is a bit like the film Trading Places.
... and then I think that perhaps those old blokes might be right.
