Few thoughts - all just feelings rather than an informed view

In the broader context of English football, we have been a successful club in recent times. More successful in league positions, financial strength, quality of players and gates.

Bowkett, McNally and Lambert are to thank for that, with due reference to Andrew Cullen.

All had serious ambition, which unfortunately we now lack. I couldn't give a s**t about Balls going on a light entertainment programme and making a prat of himself. He is an unsalaried chairman who does actually bring something to the club. But I suspect that he doesn't share Bowketts drive and fits far more into the Delia and MWJ mould of more modest expectations. Moxey seems like a good operator but I feel will be content to follow suit.

That said, I think that fans having a go at the club for lack of ambition in the transfer window need to get real. The weakness of our approach was not being able to get rid of the significant amount of dead wood that we have in the club. Keeping Klose, Howson, Brady, Ollson and attracting Pritchard can't be seen as unambitious. But we've been left with a squad that lacks variety and particularly pace. I'm not clear how much of that is due to AN and how much is the recruitment team. I suspect there's a bit of both. I don't get the need for multiple withdrawn strikers and only one that is a proper number 9. Who is now injured.

Will be interesting to see where's we go from here. I get the feeling that ANs career trajectory will be defined by this season. Let's hope he pulls it off.
